#WaffleWednesday Nutella Stuffed Waffles

I thought I'd try something new. A mini capsule of posts about waffles. Breakfast is quite hard for me as eggs on their own give me a migraine and cereal, although one of my first loves, doesn't fill me up. Waffles are a great breakfast treat and take as much time as making a smoothie or yoghurt and granola. So without further ado I bring to you... #WaffleWednesdays.

Really this isn't a recipe at all. It's a customisation. My favourite waffles are ones dipped in Nutella. (Did I say dipped? Obviously I what I meant to say is that I spread a mere teaspoon of Nutella over my waffle in a delicate fashion.) Given my love for Nutella I wondered if there was a way to have the Nutella in a more dignified fashion. I wanted a way to have a Nutella waffle that I could eat with my hands and not look like an animal. And so as they say "the Nutella Stuffed Waffles were born."

First whip up a batch of waffle mixture. I used this one but halved it. If you choose not to, you will have enough waffles surplus to feed a small army (which your family may be). I am hasty to point out that this is no tragedy as these waffles turn out beautifully when toasted for a minute or two.

The aim of the game is to use a generous tablespoon worth of batter on the griddle. Next add a tablespoon of Nutella and finally pour another generous tablespoon of batter over the top of the Nutella, shut the lid and cook on low for a several minutes, checking after 4 minutes then every couple of minutes. I can almost hear the groans at how vague my instructions are. Well I'm going to ignore you, as this is not a precise science.

The only thing worth really noting is that you want to be careful not to have the griddle very very hot as this would burn the Nutella. Provided you've judged it right, the Nutella should be encased with batter forming a shield against the heat.

You could also chuck in some chopped nuts, chocolate chips (chunks would be too large and you wouldn't be able to shut the lid) or mini smarties like I did.

I'm sure I'm not the first to think of doing this, but it would be a crime not to write about this trick for #WaffleWednesdays.
